This is a certainly a great episode from start to finish. Any flaws I could pull out would simply be nitpicking. One thing I could point out is that rape is far more prevalent in Charlie’s previous songs than spiders, yet the Gang lumped spiders in there as well earlier in the episode. See? That really doesn’t matter at all, and that’s the biggest one I can think of. Either are hilarious, just like this episode.

Especially strong was Glenn Howerton’s performance. From the start of the episode where he insisted that either way he didn’t care, to his rebellion against the simple pleasantries of the board member, to his infatuation with the methods of Suds, we got to see a ton from him in this episode, and it was all classic Dennis. Almost equally as strong was Charlie Day. Anytime we get to hear Charlie sing it’s a treat, and his Randy Newman song was actually pretty awesome. With skills like that he should think about putting on a musical. We also hadn’t seen him high on silver spray paint in a while (do they never use any other color?) and it’s always a treat to see high Charlie.

I’d say this is easily the best episode of the season so far. Those who’ve been following this season’s reviews know I was a bit letdown by the first episode and loved the second one, but there’s no question that this is my favorite of the three we’ve seen so far, and it’ll certainly be a tough one to top next week.

Other Random Notes

• Absolutely loved all that fuss over paying off someone to get into the contest, then finding out it’s a 10 dollar entry fee.
• “I think what my friend is trying to refer to is an orgasm, which is light and playful, but he overstepped himself and got a little bit too specific.”
• The conversation between Mac and Dennis about white people having one black friend was hilarious. It was just as good when they brought Z into the picture because they have such a short roster of black people. Another splendidly self-aware joke.
• Absolutely loved Frank giving away Paddy’s eggs.
• Am I the only one who thought with the way Frank was pushing the issue at the start he had some secret agenda?
• The scene where they talk about spitting on the guy while they’re in his office was classic Sunny. But nice switch not having him be in there, because I thought that he was for sure.
• Perhaps I’m reading too far into things again, but the Gang is desperately trying to win an award in this episode, and Howerton spoke over the summer about how the show has never been given any awards. See what they did there? Maybe? For the record, this show deserves lots of awards. From best bar straight on up to best comedy.
