Take note Harry Potter fans, a less bigoted Hogwarts Legacy alternative currently costs

December 2024 · 3 minute read

As much as Harry Potter fans may want to deny it, there is no doubt that purchasing and playing Hogwarts Legacy will have a negative effect on trans people. Adding on top of it that many in the Jewish community are also upset by antisemitic tropes within the game and it’s hard to not see why people are so upset that many are choosing to prioritize their own happiness over having solidarity with these communities during particular times of hardship. Fortunately for those with a good moral compass, there’s a fantastic deal on an alternative magical world for a limited time.

Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time was released back in 2018 and allows players to uncover the mysteries of a Hogwarts alternative: Luna Nova Academy. The game is based on the anime and movies created by Studio Trigger — yes, the same people that created massive hits like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Kill la Kill, and BNA: Brand New Animal — so it’s hard to deny its animated quality. The game is a combination of the film Groundhog Day and Majora’s Mask, with players stuck in a time loop and needing to complete important tasks in under twenty-four hours.

The series follows Akko Kagari, a young aspiring witch who goes to Luna Nova Academy with hopes of becoming just as talented as her idol: Shiny Chariot. She makes friends along the way with Lotte Yansson and Sucy Manbavaran who help the fledgling witch who is inexperienced in the magical world find her way. Along the way, the trio learns the true meaning of being a witch.

The world of Little Witch Academia is one rich with world-building and lore that isn’t as confusing or broken as a certain wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling. Fans of the anime have been taking to Twitter to extol the virtues of the series for those trying to leave Harry Potter behind for something better.

We do not need a harry potter TV show because we live in a world where Little Witch Academia exists

Many have been specifically pointing to Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time as the game to play right now instead of Hogwarts Legacy as well.

Those concerned with the antisemitic tropes in Hogwarts Legacy will find that goblins are treated far better in the world of Little Witch Academia.

Compare and contrast with Little Witch Academia, the better magical school franchise, where the protagonist joins a goblin rebellion and stands for the working class https://t.co/BqTqFn7TMw pic.twitter.com/SJAHOWm0PT

The best part of all? Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time is currently on sale for 85% off on Steam making it a whopping $5.99 to try. Compare that to the $59.99 for the standard edition and $69.99 for the deluxe edition of Hogwarts Legacy and it’s not hard to see what the better deal is. The offer ends on February 13th, so make sure to jump on it fast!

There’s never been a better time to find a new magical world to become immersed in, and Little Witch Academia is currently one of the most accessible options as it is currently available on Netflix. If it still doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, there are plenty of other less problematic alternatives including a majorly overlooked franchise from Disney and another property from Warner Bros. that could easily join the DCU.
